DIGITAL PAINTING

grace and hannaDigital painting is very much like painting with real paint only the tools are a bit different. I use a touch sensitive pen and tablet. The tablet I use is the Wacom Intuos 4  medium. which has 2,048 levels of touch sensitivity and is also sensitive to angle and barrel rotation when using the new Art Pen.
The painting is done in software called Corel Painter 12 , the newest version of which uses the Wacom and Art Pen to the maximum with "real bristle" brushes which can be rotated as you go through the stroke just like a real paint brush. The best part is you don't have to clean them and this brush can be any type of stylus like a pencil, airbrush, soft hair, stiff, flexible, or a palette knife, and you can switch colours instantly without using solvents. I can also take bigger risks with work that has time invested because I can undo what I've done. This is very liberating from traditional media.

In combination with Adobe Photoshop CS4, ZBrush 4, Vue 9 Complete, Dogwaffle PD5, and other 2D and 3D software this represents a powerful tool set far more versatile than traditional means. Have a look in my gallery to see examples of these techniques, but take note that the images you see are small compressed jpeg versions which are merely representative of the final output, which are large Tiff or PSD files.
This is the technical explanation of my art, the means as it where. The other aspects, the reasons, philosophy, and aesthetic qualities are the same as any traditional art.   I'll be adding an "Artworks for sale" section soon and sometimes I'll do custom work for people, so come back, look, and by all means comment if you like. Hope to hear from you .....rog     More on this subject here.
