Adobe Photoshop CS4 Extended is the version I use, it's the most powerful photo editing software on the market, imo.
Corel Painter Geared towards the traditional painter and working with photos, one of the best IMO................... Together with the Wacom Intuos 4 and Art Pen. It is quite amazing what can be done with a pen and tablet, rather than a mouse.
Genuine Fractals Best plug-in for Photoshop, for image enlargement imo...the new version works as a standalone app too.
Vue 9 Complete, is a 3D Landscape and animation program. , it's the one I use , and it's very good. You have seen it used in many movies you've seen, like Avatar, Pirates of the Caribbean, and many more .
Poser 3d figure and character software, with animation. This is the first 3D software I got, it's pretty cool.
Project Dogwaffle* I use PD Howler, the latest version, love it ! ! Still find new things to do. One of the best values out there. There's a free version too!
ZBrush 3d sculpting better than clay, paint on textures, and 2.5d brushes, very cool. Pixologic is very kind to their customers, they have given us free upgrades (and much more) since I first bought the software in 2003. ZBrush 4 is really amazing!!!
Artweaver Artweaver allows you to paint creatively with the help of a huge range of painting tools. You can create sketches from photos or just experiment with colors. There's a free version and a Plus version.
Blender Blender is the free open source 3D content creation suite, available for all major operating systems under the GNU General Public License. It's absolutely amazing what you can do with this program.

GIMP is an acronym for GNU Image Manipulation Program. It is a freely distributed program for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring. If you can't afford something like Photoshop, I've heard this is good, but I have not used it.
Meshmixer is a free tool for making crazy-ass 3D stuff without too much hassle. Or boring stuff too. You decide.
Pixie Is another color picker, very simple and easy. The whole thing is 67k
